How to Delete a Gmail Account, Completely: Step by Step Know it All

How to Delete a Gmail Account, Completely: Step by Step Know it All

To delete your Gmail account, you’ll need to have access to a desktop web browser. Gmail apps do not have the deletion feature, and mobile browsers are a bit awkward to use during this process. It’s also worth noting that your e-mail address will no longer work, so make sure you have your contacts up to date and stored elsewhere.
How to delete a Gmail account:
  1. Visit Google’s centralized account page: https://myaccount.google.com
  2. Click the sign-in button in the top right corner.
  3. Sign in using the details for the Gmail account you’re going to delete.
  4. In the topic boxes at the center of the page, look for “Account Preferences”
  5. Click “Delete your account or services”
  6. On the next page, click “Delete products”
  7. Enter your password again.
  8. Download a backup copy of your data before you delete it. See the instructions below for more information.
  9. Click the trash can icon next to Gmail.
  10. If you have other active Google services, you’ll need to enter an alternate e-mail.
  11. Send a verification e-mail to this alt account.
  12. Check your other e-mail address for the verification message.
  13. Click the link in the e-mail to verify your new sign-in address.
  14. Enter your new sign-in e-mail and your Gmail account deletion will be complete.

How to Delete Gmail and Other Google Accounts

Getting rid of Gmail not enough? Through the same process, Google allows you to delete your Gmail, YouTube, AdSense, and most other Google service accounts all through the same interface. You can pick and choose which pieces of data you want to remove and which ones you want to keep, so if you want to reclaim a big chunk of your privacy from Google, this is the way to do it.
How to delete multiple Google product accounts:
  1. Visit Google’s centralized account page: https://myaccount.google.com
  2. Click the sign-in button in the top right corner.
  3. Sign in using the details for the Gmail account you’re going to delete.
  4. In the topic boxes at the center of the page, look for “Account Preferences”
  5. Click “Delete your account or services”
  6. On the next page, click “Delete Google Account and data”
  7. Enter your password again.
  8. Backup your data before you delete it. See the instructions below for more information.
  9. Check both boxes at the bottom of the screen acknowledging the process.
  10. Click “Delete account”

How to Recover a Deleted Gmail Account

If you already deleted your Gmail account, didn’t keep a backup, and suddenly regret the decision, all might not be lost. Data often remains on Google’s servers for as many as seven days after you remove your account, making it possible to do a quick recovery through a web interface. If more than a week has passed since your deletion, it’s very unlikely you’ll be able to recover anything.
How to recover a deleted Gmail account:
  1. Visit Google’s recovery page: https://accounts.google.com/signin/recovery
  2. Enter the e-mail or phone number used to sign into the account you wish to recover.
  3. Click the “Try to restore account” link.
  4. Enter the password you used with the account.
  5. If too much time hasn’t passed, your account will automatically be restored.

Delete All E-mails instead of Deleting Your Gmail Account

Deleting your entire Gmail account carries one big drawback: your e-mail address will no longer be active. Anyone looking to get in touch with you will need a current e-mail address, and we all know how annoying it can be to make sure every single relevant contact knows you’re changing e-mails.
A nice in-between solution is to simply delete all of your Gmail content but leave the address intact. Your messages won’t be around for advertising scans, and you can check the account every week or so and slowly transfer your contacts over to a new e-mail. Before long you won’t have anything left in Gmail, at which point it’s safe to delete the entire account, if you like.
How to delete all of your Gmail e-mails:
  1. From anywhere in your Gmail account, click on the search box at the top and type “in:anywhere”, without the quotation marks.
  2. Press enter. All of your e-mail will be loaded, unfiltered, and including spam.
  3. Click the down arrow in the small box to the left of the “Refresh” button.
  4. Choose “All”
  5. A note will appear just above your e-mails: “All 100 conversations on this page are selected. Select all ...........conversations in All Mail”
  6. Click the underlined portion of the note to select all of your e-mail.
  7. Click the “Delete” button above your e-mail list.
  8. Click “OK” in the confirmation dialogue.
  9. E-mails sent to the trash will be automatically removed and unrecoverable after 30 days.
  10. If you don’t want to wait 30 days, go to your trash folder by clicking the link on the left nav menu. You may need to click the “more” label to expand the list.
  11. Click the “Empty Trash now” link at the top.
  12. Click “OK” in the confirmation dialogue to clear your deleted e-mails.
With your e-mails removed, there are still a few things you should check in Gmail’s interface to make sure all of your private data has been cleared.
  1. Remove your labels by going to Settings > Labels
  2. Delete alternative and alias accounts by going to Settings > Accounts and Import
  3. Remove your custom filters under Settings > Filters and Blocked Addresses
  4. Clear any forwarding addresses from Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP

Backup Your Data Before Deleting Gmail

Removing your data from Google’s servers doesn’t mean you have to lose access to it for good. Google offers a quick and convenient way to create backups of all of your information, including Gmail, Photos, Google Drive, and YouTube. Before you delete your Gmail account, be sure to download a backup and store it on your computer or in a cloud storage service for safe keeping.
How to backup Gmail data:
  1. Click the “backup” link during the deletion process, or go tohttps://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout
  2. Choose the Google services you want to backup
  3. Click “next”
  4. Select the archive format. A .zip file delivered via e-mail is the most common
  5. Click “Create archive” at the bottom
  6. Google will collect and archive your data
  7. If you chose delivery via e-mail, make sure you retrieve the file from Gmail before deleting your account

Increase Security on Your Gmail Account

Sometimes we’re tied to the e-mail address and service we’re currently using. Businesses often use Gmail as their chosen form of corporate communication. And you have to admit, the service does offer a ton of useful customization features and a wonderful mobile app. There are a few things you can do to help increase security on your Gmail account.
  • Enable HTTPS – Gmail allows you to toggle your connection style between HTTPS, or secure, and standard HTTP. You should always have HTTPS turned on without exception. Make sure “Always use https” is active under Settings > General in your Gmail account.
  • Check account access – Gmail allows users to grant access to their account to other users, a feature largely reserved for families or work environments. If someone gains access to your Gmail for some reason, however, it’s easy for them to keep access to your e-mail without your knowledge. Go to Settings > Accounts and Import and look under “Grant access to your account” to see if any other addresses are listed.
  • Check access authorization – Lots of websites and apps like to request access to Google and Gmail for sign-in and communication purposes. You always have the option of revoking this request when a third party makes it, but sometimes we grant access without thinking about it, then forget to remove it later on. This can lead to some strange security breaches. Visit Google’s permissions page and scroll down the list to see which services have access to your Google and Gmail accounts. Click the ones you want to remove, then click the big “remove” button to revoke access.
  • Monitor your forwarding addresses – Another great Gmail feature is the ability to automatically forward e-mail to other addresses. Again, if someone gains temporary access to your Gmail account, they can set themselves up as a forwarding agent and read everything you write. Visit Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP to see which addresses also receive your e-mail. Remove anything that isn’t absolutely necessary.
  • Track account activity – Google keeps detailed logs of all account logins and activity. While this may seem a little creepy at first, it’s actually a fantastic way to monitor your own accounts for suspicious events. Visit Google’s sign-in and security page to see which devices have accessed your Google account, when, and from which location. If anything looks out of place, click the “Secure your account” link at the top of the page to take action. Thanks

12 Quick Internet Safety Tips That Will Save Your Digital Life from Getting Hacked

Quick Internet Safety Tips
Make sure you've got a superstrong, unique password. In other words, ensure that your password is difficult to guess. One way to come up with a creative password is to brainstorm a random sentence. Take the first letter of each word in that sentence and use that acronym as the base for your password.
Don't use the same password for multiple services. Using the same term for all of your passwords leaves your entire digital life vulnerable to attack. This means that if a hacker has one password, he or she has all of your passwords.
Enable two-factor authentication. Many services, including Google, offer two-factor authentication for logging into your account. Instead of simply entering a username and password to log in, the website will prompt you to enter a code sent to your smartphone to verify your identity.
Apply software updates when necessary. Apple, Google, and Microsoft typically include security bug fixes and patches in their most recent software updates. So don't ignore those annoying prompts and keep your software up-to-date.
Carefully read the permissions before installing apps. This is one of the most prominent ways in which malicious apps can gain access to your personal information. These types of issues have been especially present in the Google Play store. A lot of apps ask for a lengthy list of permissions, and that doesn't mean they're all ill-intentioned. But it's important to be aware of the types of information your apps are accessing, which can include your contacts, location, and even your phone's camera.
Check the app publisher before installing. There have been numerous instances in which scammers have published apps in the Google Play store posing as another popular app. For example, in late 2012 an illegitimate developer posted an imposter app in Google Play pretending to be "Temple Run." A quick look at the publisher shows that the app comes from a developer named "apkdeveloper," not the game's true publisher Imangi Studios.
Avoid inserting hard drives and thumbdrives you don't trust into your computer. If you find a random USB stick, don't let your curiosity tempt you to plug it in. Someone could have loaded malware onto it hoping that an interested person was careless enough to insert it into their device. If you don't trust the source, you're better off not putting your computer at risk.
Make sure a website is secure before you enter personal information. Look for the little padlock symbol in front of the web address in the URL bar. Also, make sure the web address starts with the prefix https://. If these things aren't there, then the network isn't secure and you shouldn't enter any  data you wouldn't want made public.
Don't send personal data via email. Sending critical information such as credit card numbers or bank account numbers puts it at risk of being intercepted by hackers or cyber attacks.
Keep an eye out for phishing scams. A phishing scam is an email or website that's designed to steal from you. Often times, a hacker will use this email or website to install malicious software onto your computer. These web entities are designed to look like a normal email or website, which is how hackers convince their victims to hand over personal information. Phishing scams are typically easy to spot, but you should know what to look out for. Many of these emails contain spell errors and are written in poor grammar. Here's a great example of a standard phishing
Avoid logging into your important accounts on public computers. Sometimes you've got no choice but to use a computer at the coffee shop, library, or local FedEx. But try not to do it frequently, and make sure you completely wipe the browser's history when you're finished.
Back up your personal files to avoid losing them. You should keep a copy of all important files in the cloud and on some sort of hard drive. If one of them gets hacked or damaged, you'll still have a backup copy.

Difference Between Seeds and Leechers in Torrents' language?

Seeds vs Leechers
Seeding and leeching are two activities that are connected with P2P file sharing via torrents. A seed is a complete copy of a file from which other users can download. A single torrent can have multiple seeds, allowing downloaders to obtain pieces from different sources and increasing total speed. Leechers have a mixed meaning as it was initially coined to describe people who only download but not upload, thereby impacting the overall speed of the network. Currently, the term leecher is also used to refer to people who do not yet have the complete file, regardless of the download/upload speeds; also referred to as peers.
The number of seeds and leechers on a given torrent can affect the speed that you can get when downloading a file. A file that has just been put-up with only 1 seeder and thousands of leechers would have dismal speeds. After a few hours, some may already have finished downloading the file and has started to seed, thus improving the speed for everyone else. When the number of seeds outnumber the leechers, you can expect a much higher download speed than when the torrent was started.
This also shows another aspect of seeding and leeching. After downloading the complete files, leechers instantly turn into seeders. They no longer take up bandwidth but provide it to those who have not finished yet. This is encouraged and users are urged to maintain a 1:1 download to upload ratio as a minimum. Others opt to keep seeding even after they have exceeded the minimum. True to the original meaning of the word leecher, some people do remove the torrents to stop uploading while others intentionally modify their clients to prevent it from uploading even when they are still downloading. This is a practice that is discouraged and some networks are beginning to implement ways to prevent these types of leechers from downloading at high speeds if at all.
The health of the P2P community lies in the generosity of each one in the network. Despite a few errant members who refuse to share for whatever reason, most still do share their upload bandwidth so that others have a faster and less smoother downloading experience.
Summary:
1. Seeds are complete copies of a file while leechers are those who are downloading more than they are uploading
2. Seeds generally increase download speed while leechers lower it
3. Legal leechers become seeders once they finish downloading
4. Seeding is encouraged while leeching is discouraged

In this post, we’re going to discuss everything you need to know about YouTube thumbnails, including the ideal size, how to create them, and the only best practices list you’ll ever need
. Your custom thumbnail image should be as large as possible, as the image will also be used as the preview image in the embedded player. We recommend your custom thumbnails: Have a resolution of 1280x720 (with a minimum width of 640 pixels). Be uploaded in image formats such as .JPG, .GIF, .BMP, or .PNG. - You’ve heard it a million times, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” And while in most cases that may be sound advice,

it doesn’t mean people listen to this warning. People judge images and videos by their thumbnails every day. In this visual day and age, thumbnails have the ability to give either a good or bad first impression. - But what exactly are thumbnails?

Thumbnails are reduced-size versions of images or videos that originally got their name from being about the size of a human thumbnail. They’re easier to scan and organize than their full-size counterparts. In fact, thumbnails serve the same role for images as a normal text index does for words. If a viewer is interested, they can click on the thumbnail to expand the image and see the full picture.

Thumbnails make for smaller, more easily viewable pages and also allow viewers to have control over exactly what they want to see.
A great custom video thumbnail can make all the difference when it comes to a viewer clicking through to your video or deciding whether or not to watch another. It lets your viewer know what they’re about to see, and why it’s something they should be interested in—just like a book cover does. You’ve probably experienced this on YouTube once or twice. You watch one video, and then see a thumbnail for another video that may interest you. The thumbnail is what drove you to click and watch. A great thumbnail makes a creator’s content stand out.

What Are Meta Tags? -How Google Meta Tags Impact SEO

What Are Meta Tags?

Meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page’s content; the meta tags don’t appear on the page itself, but only in the page’s code. We all know tags from blog culture, and meta tags are more or less the same thing, little content descriptors that help tell search engines what a web page is about.
The only difference between tags you can see (on a blogpost, say) and tags you can’t see is location: meta tags only exist in HTML, usually at the “head” of the page, and so are only visible to search engines (and people who know where to look). The “meta” stands for “metadata,” which is the kind of data these tags provide – data about the data on your page.

Do Meta Tags Help SEO?

Yes, they do, but not all of them and not all of the time. One of the goals of this page is to explain which meta tags help you to get the word out and which have become passé. (See Know Your Meta Tags below).
If you want to find out whether a given page is using meta tags, just right-click anywhere on the page and select “View Page Source.”
A new tab will open in Chrome (in Firefox, it’ll be a pop-up window). The part at the top, or “head” of the page, is where the meta tags could be.
The meta tags will look something like this:

Know Your Meta Tags

There are four major types of meta tags worth knowing about and we’ll talk about them all here. Some are not as useful as they once were. Others are worth using regularly, and will very likely increase your traffic by letting Google know who you are and what you provide. (There are more than four kinds of meta tags, but some are less common or not relevant to web marketing).
The four types we’ll discuss here are:
  • Meta Keywords Attribute - A series of keywords you deem relevant to the page in question.
  • Title Tag - This is the text you'll see at the top of your browser. Search engines view this text as the "title" of your page.
  • Meta Description Attribute - A brief description of the page.
  • Meta Robots Attribute - An indication to search engine crawlers (robots or "bots") as to what they should do with the page.

Meta Keywords Attribute

Meta Keywords are an example of a meta tag that doesn’t make much sense to use these days. Years ago, the meta keyword tags may have been beneficial, but not anymore.
Remember back in kindergarten and when your teacher gave you a stern look and said “if you can’t stop using those crayons while I’m talking, I’m going to take them away from you,” and you didn’t listen and, to your shock, they were indeed taken away? That’s sort of what Google did with meta keywords.
Years ago, marketers eager for page views would insert keywords totally unrelated to their pages into their code in an attempt to pirate traffic from the more popular pages, those that actually were about Lindsay Lohan, or whoever was then trending. This was known as "keyword stuffing." Google eventually got wise to this and decided in the end to devalue the tool. These days Google doesn’t use meta keywords in its ranking algorithm at all, because they're too easy to abuse.

Title Tag

Title tags, on the other hand, are the most important of all of the meta tags discussed here. These tags have a real impact on search rankings and, perhaps just as importantly, are the only one of the tags we’ll discuss here that are visible to the average user. You’ll find them at the top of your browser (for organic search pages or for PPC landing pages):
This is particularly useful if you want to give the page one primary title for the user but want to clarify or simplify that information for SEO purposes and for the user who’s shuffling multiple tabs on their desktop.

Meta Description Attribute

This is a quite useful meta tag as, very simply, it explains to search engines and (sometimes) searchers themselves what your page is about. Let’s say you were googling the phrase “meta keywords” for example. You might encounter the following results:

It’s important to note that the description tag won’t always show up in the results for a Google search (Google frequently picks a snippet of text from the page itself) but it’s useful in other ways. Google has also stated that keywords in meta descriptions won’t affect your rankings. However, a compelling meta description tag could entice searchers to click through from the SERP to your site, especially if the description includes the keywords they were searching for.
Google’s reasons are somewhat mysterious, but their actions speak loudly: meta keywords don’t much matter anymore, but meta descriptions most certainly do.

Meta Robots Attribute

With this attribute, you're telling the search engines what to do with your pages:
  • index/noindex - This tells the engines whether to show your page in search results or not.
  • follow/nofollow - This tells the engines what to do with links on your pages: whether they should trust and "follow" your links to the next page or not.

So What's Next?

We’ve talked about the ways in which meta tags can have a very real impact on search engine marketing. From all of the above, we can extrapolate that:
  • The Title Tag alone can impact your search engine rankings.
  • Descriptive tags may encourage users to visit your site.
  • The meta description may serve as "organic ad text."
